So long, farewell...

Friday we went to San Marino for a memorial service for John Varley. My brother flew down for the day and we got to spend some time telling all of our "John" stories. (He was a friend of my Dad's who lived with our family for over 20 years.) My Mom told us that she had the perfect adult to child ratio for raising kids: 3 adults to 2 children. She also never had to do the dishes because he always insisted on doing them. So Ammon and I are looking for a "John"...I suppose we need a spare room first.

We started to prepare for Ammon's departure to sea and got to spend some quality family time eating at Ammon's favorite restaurants, taking a bike ride to the beach and going to HB's Marti Gras celebration. But, alas, we finally had to watch him sail away.

Ammon and Campbell posing in front of the Command Ship or, as they call it, "the ACS."

.......................................
Campbell was having a little fun jumping and horsing around and, of course, they always provide doughnuts - ya, doughnuts make everything better.

Waving goodbye to the ACS and all of the launch team. (I've pointed out Ammon for you...in case you didn't feel like playing "Where's Waldo.")

..............................
As you can see, Campbell was really broken up. ;-) We watched the ACS pull out of the Harbor. Sigh...let's grab another doughnut and go to the park.

Tomorrow Ammon's parents roll into town. Let's see, I guess that you're not exactly why they come to visit, Ammon. Sorry. Campbell's looking forward to taking Grandma & Grandpa to Disneyland. He's also very very excited for Easter. Earlier this week I had told him that Daddy would be gone for Easter - today as the boat pulled away I said, "What are we going to do without Daddy?" Campbell looked at me with a big smile and said "We're going to do Easter!"

Here's a donut to a safe trip and actually getting to launch the rocket this time! Have fun at Disneyland!

Hmm, we have a spare room... send any Johns you find our way. Wish we were going to Disneyland with you! Oh well, at least we'll be able to visit you next month and as Spencer says (frequently) "go to the beach with Campbell!"

That is such a cute picture of the three of you. I guess by now you're getting used to him going but that sure doesn't make it any fun. Have fun in Disney Land! We'll be thinking of you.
