Christmas Eve...the Madsens hit the LA Zoo. We were smart enough not to taunt the tigers, but we did love getting to know new Gorilla family...and NO there doesn't seem to be any resemblance.
.................. .
We spent the rest of Christmas Eve at Grandma Mayer's. And, guess what? Santa found us there! Here's Campbell opening his first gift. It took us quite a while to get through all of the presents on Christmas morning because we had to stop and really play with each one. I mean, we just couldn't tear Ammon away from those toys...ok, you're right - it was Campbell.
Here we are modeling some of our new clothes...very handsome.
We left San Marino on Christmas morning and headed down to my Aunt's house in beautiful San Diego. Campbell fell in love with my cousin's little dog, Nikki.
Later that week, my brother Andrew and his family came to stay for a while. The Shepperts are quite the chess aficionados and it seems that a little rubbed off on Campbell - watch out Alex!

We had all of the Sheppert, Madsen, Anderson, Bishoff & Benson kids (and their folks) over to Grandma/Auntie Jackie's to ring in the New Year - at about 6:30 pm. With snaps, poppers, confetti and balloons it's pretty much the funnest holiday ever for a one or two year old...and it was a pretty good ruse in that only the 10 year old complained that it wasn't even midnight anywhere in the US.

Then on New Years Day we braved the crowds and headed to the Rose Parade. Campbell loved every moment from the fighter jets to the tow trucks. He stood on my lap the whole time. Ammon enjoyed it very much too seeing as he was able to take a looooong shower and watch football at home all alone. (Not only did he, an Aggie and confirmed parade hater, marry a BYU Cougar...but a Rose Parader as well!)

all i have to say is "boo boo for BYU!" ha ha! It looks like you guys has a fun holiday season - i love the pictures - and I CAN'T wait to be in cali again!! Maybe Ben will look for a job out that way??? ya, probably not, but a girl can wish...
I'm glad you didn't taunt the tigers. :) Talk about a crazy story. Looks like you guys had a good Christmas.
I'm glad you got to keep Ammon this launch. Hopefully they don't have to stay out for 30 days, but if they do then who cares. :)
There are not enough BYU and parade haters around. Kudos to Ammon for enjoying his New Year's day.
I tried watching the parade on TV for a little while... turns out I'm not much of a parade-goer myself. Must be a Madsen thing.
I especially like your red bow. It's so pretty. How's the new stove working out?
I love parades and have attended more than one by myself! If you don't like parades you must be communist or something.
Family traditions can be a strong thing. When Jaime woke up on New Year's Day she came downstairs to where I was watching a pre-bowl-game show and asked if I could change the channel to the Rose Parade. She then proceeded to spend most of the morning in rooms other than the one the TV was in. Not sure she really even wanted to watch the parade, only that she instinctively knew (as a Pasadena native) that "its what you do" on NY Day.
I should have come over and joined Ammon (in the football part, not the long shower).
