On the homefront Campbell and I have had a busy weekend. We had Uncle Ben & Auntie Christy come to stay for the weekend. They saved me on Sunday by watching Campbell during Sacrament meeting (no easy task) while I sat on the stand for the Primary Program (great timing with your birthday, Christy). (And the program went great. :-)
We also got to spend time with the Shepperts. They were down for their Grandma & Grandpa Pearson's missionary farewell, but we got to spend a day at Disneyland together. We had a great time...especially watching Alex fight Darth Mal at Jedi Training Academy. Well, a great time except for the panic attack I had when I lost Campbell at the Pizza Port. Of course I found him about 20 feet away sticking his hand in the trash can but I can see how a leash might be a pretty good idea.

As a bonus, Campbell and went to dinner with Kim the Doughgirl who was also in town.
This week looks a little less exciting...unless it involves a launch. Keep your fingers crossed!
These are a couple of old picture that Betsy took of Campbell and Spencer this summer. What a crack-up!

We had the leash discussion today at a work staff meeting. I asked whether it was socially acceptable to put a leash on your child at Disneyland - it always seemed like a good idea to me. I took the looks of horror on the faces of many of the women in my group to mean that our society does not sanction the leashing of children. One of the other guys asked whether the fact that we leash dogs but won't leash our children means that we would rather lose our children than our dogs . . . . I guess our Kate is still young enough that I'm not tempted to answer that question in the affirmative.
No kidding...I see so many people at Disneyland with their kids wearing these little animal backpacks that have a leash connected to the parent. They're actually kind of cute.
After several running away incidences, coupled with absolute refusal to ride in the stroller, I'm seriously considering a leash for Spencer. Maybe a collar too. At least now I can still outrun him but I fear the tables will turn on me one day soon.
That totally sucks about the launch and Thanksgiving.... :( Love the pics of Spencer and Campbell. They might not care for them in a few years though, hee hee.
I have always been an unabashed fan of the leash, and I was secretly relieved when Jared saw some on kids this past summer and said he thought they were a good idea.
As long as it's paired with something more humane than a choke collar, I don't see the problem.
On the other hand, there are lots of cool techie alternatives these days, like devices that start beeping when your child gets, say, more than 10 or 12 feet from you.
While the beeper is a nice development, I'm looking for more than an audible alert that my child is getting too far from me, I want something that keeps me from having to chase her down.
So I take it one of those invisible fences is out of the question for children. You know the one that sends a "mild jolt of electricity" to the child/dog if they go beyond a certain boundary.
Alright, so I think Ammon will agree with me that anyone who makes a Brokeback Mountain joke about our sons will be forced to face the brunt of some angry dads.
I had not thought about a Brokeback Mountain joke - must be losing my touch. I just assumed, with such an open culture in California, such displays of affection were fairly common. At least Campbell did not have to wait for his first kiss as long as his father.
oh, SNAP!
